Bert-Jan Ruissen is a Dutch Member of European Parliament on behalf of SGP (Reformed Political Party) and ECPM.

In the European Parliament, he is member of the Committees on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) and Fisheries (PECH). He serves as vice-chair of the EP Delegation on relations with Israel. Before his election to the EP, Ruissen worked for the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality. He was also a city council member in his hometown Krimpen aan de Ijssel, where he lives with his wife and four children.

In the 2019-2024 parliamentary term he negotiated with the other EU institutions on behalf of the EP parts of the Common Agricultural Policy regarding extension of plant variety rights, and fisheries control rules. He co-filed the adopted resolution on reducing the protection of the wolf, and he was one of the most vocal MEPs asking for a new Special Envoy for the promotion of Freedom of Religion or Belief outside the EU which was eventually appointed in December 2022.

Bert-Jan Ruissen is a pro-life and family values advocate. He calls for the reform of the European Union so that the subsidiarity principle is respected and sovereignty is returned to its member states. Ruissen supports the existence of the state of Israel and is involved in the fight against antisemitism.
